The task was to make a map in the style of HUD graphics on a light background in the corporate colors of the Astro-Volga company, and these are white, blue and red. However, this option is not possible because the HUD graphics suggest a glow, and the glow on a light background and a light map will not be visible. Therefore, he offered to make a dark background.

As a basis, I took a map in Miller’s projection exported from QGIS and layers with different data, such as urban agglomerations, rivers, reservoirs, lakes.
After several experiments, I decided to remove other countries so that they would not distract attention, because the company works for the Russian market.
Materials
After creating the map model, the most difficult thing was the creation of materials. Here I tried to use procedurally generated elements and shores.
So the main layer of the map was made multilayer. I used different tiling, mixing it with noise cards of various scales, so I got a complex drawing in the HUD style and, of course, I made all these patterns luminous, so that later you can apply additional effects to enhance the glow.
The globe background was made according to the same principle.
Animation
The map of the Russian Federation was divided into separate regions, which made the work a little difficult, however, it later made it possible to add a separate appearance effect.
The basis of the movement was the rotation of the globe, followed by the appearance of all regions to make the animation more interesting.
Post-production
Compositing I did in After Effects. To do this, I added a map of Gazman’s rotoscopy and several effects.
- First, I added the Bloom effect with Deep Glow;
- Motion Blur with RSMB.
- Color correction and contrast enhancement
Also, additional camera movements with Gazmanov himself were added, so that there would be an effect of its appearance in the frame.
Additional animations
At the request of the customer, icons of the house, car and medicine were added to enhance speech. As well as the ‘Honest Insurance’ icon.
