The company contacted me Videomaker-Russia.ru With a proposal to make a final editing of the video about Samara bread.
I was provided with animation and filming files, a script for the video and voice acting of the announcer.
I had the following tasks:
- Assemble the clip from the videos according to the script.
- Place voiceover.
- pick up music.
- Make the missing animation.
- Stylize some shots on vintage shooting.
- Create special antique credits.
Part 1. Assemble a clip from videos according to the script.
First I posted all the clips. Chose the best shots. I created a draft from what I will mount next.
Part 2. Placement of voice acting
The voice acting of the announcer had to be cut and removed all breaths and pauses. The video turned out to be fast and rich.
There was a problem with the fact that the timings of the animation did not correspond to the voice acting and at some point they had to cut and speed up, somewhere to insert static frames to accurately fit the animation to the words of the speaker.
Part 3. Selection of music.
The music of the 19th century was well suited for this video. I used the notes of P.I. Tchaikovsky. They fit perfectly for the video. The music has already set the pace for the video. This is especially noticeable in the part where the repair takes place.
Part 4. Creation of animations.
The video lacked animation. In the part of the video, which tells the story of the merchants, it was decided to use archival shots, and make the effect of the ‘projector’.
I used my experience in Adobe After Effects and created a composition where I placed a background with a cutout that simulates the projector window in the foreground. And on the back, I placed a separate composition consisting of photographs and placed everything in the 3D scene:
I also added an animation of slide switching and additional animation of the lens effect, which added additional movement to the frame. And it remains only to use the sound of switching the projector and this animation was ready.
In this style, some shots were also taken with Tsar Nicholas II and the Neklyutinka bun.
Part 5. Stylize some shots according to vintage shooting
I used several tricks to stylize frames. Firstly, these are special LUTs with sepia effect. Secondly, color correction with a decrease in saturation, an increase in the exposure of frames.
I also used the footage of the old film superimposed on the archival frames, which gave the feeling of old frames.
Part 6: Create special antique credits
It was necessary to create animated titles in the style of the video, but the font should be used by the company from the customer. After studying the references, I chose this style of design – in the style of the pre-revolutionary press.
