- Project cost: 20,000 rubles or $200.
- Project Type: Motion Design.
- Lead time: 2 days.
Videomaker-Russia.ru contacted me with an order: you need to make animation for the outer screens.
The idea for advertising is as follows: a guy and a girl eat noodles from a cup, which is located in the middle. During the animation, a running line with a restaurant ad appears.
1. Preparation
Before the start, the technical task with the parameters of the screens was not issued.
The video should be on 3 different screens by resolution:
- Total screen resolution: 2225 to 480px;
- Screen 1: 720 at 480px;
- Screen 2: 810 at 480px;
- Screen 3: 720 at 480px.
In order to render everything correctly, I created a 2225 sequence of 480 pixels and divided it using auxiliary lines into 3 screens.
I was given footage taken with the camera. Here’s what they look like:

As you can see – the frame has distortion, incorrect geometry, there is also shaking in the frame.
To prepare an animation video, I did the following:
- Stabilized the frame in mode – without movement. so that the frame does not move at all with Adobe After Effects.
- Corrected perspective distortion with CC Power PIN plugin so that the frame looks flat.
- With the help of scale and position, I made it so that the guy, the girl and the cup were located exactly in the frame.
- I rendered the edits received in a new video to make it easier to work.

2. Rotoscoping
At first I had to remove the excess from the frame – everything that was not on the table or did not belong to the girl and the guy. To do this, I used the masks and animated them, because the guy and the girl moved a little in the frame.

Now from the place where I deleted the image, it was possible to place some kind of animation.
The next step was to prepare for animation. I needed to separate the girl and the guy from the background so that I could put animation under them. To do this, I used the Rotobrush tool in Adobe After Effects:

I didn’t need a too accurate clinap, I just needed to make general contours, so I didn’t spend much time cleaning out the unnecessary parts.
3. Adding bar logo
I decided to add animation so that there was more movement in the frame.
To do this, I animate the Tati Nomi logo.

Here I just animated the shadow of the inscription.
I placed the logo as if it were drawn on the table surface using the ‘Screen’ blend effect.

In total, I added 3 logos so that each screen has its own logo.
4. Creating noodle animation
The next step I decided to animate the noodles because if you use the video, then the noodles did not look very nice.
So I circled the noodles with the help of the bezier lines, made it bright, gave it a little volume with the built-in Find Edges effect.
The result was the following:

And now there is a lot of small work left – to animate this noodle. To do this, I changed the position of the noodles every 3-5 frames. So it turned out to animate it.

5. Adding animations
In order to give the style of Japan, I decided to add hieroglyphs.
To do this, I took ready-made hieroglyphs from the Tati Nomi logo. Added twisting animations using the built-in Adobe After Effects twisting effects and motion. I made the animation movement seamless. And also added glow. It turned out the following:

And I put this animation in the area where I deleted the excess – to the left of the girl and to the right of the guy.
The next stage of the terms of reference – I added the address of the restaurant and simple animation – the movement of the phone number in the frame:

You can see the final result:
The customer was pleased with the result. Now let’s see how this animation looked on the screens:
