I was approached to make an urgent order – a video for an art exhibition. The company provided footage Videomaker-Russia.ru. The plot was prepared. which later changed a lot.
The terms of reference were as follows:
- The duration of the video is no more than 3 minutes.
- There must be an exhibition logo.
- Make a wedge and place the name of the exhibition in the video on the banner.
- Try to fit all the footage.
- Dynamic and bright music.
- Add abstract graphics and thrash it to create a 3D effect.
1. Installation
I was given about 100 GB of footage, which I looked at and chose the most interesting ones. divided them into topics:
- in the car;
- in the club;
- working on the wall;
- night shooting;
- final result;
- school;
- Studio.
Made a preliminary editing of the selected scenes. Due to the fact that the voice acting was not provided to me at first, I voiced the video on my own in order to start working, and not waste time.
In the video, I tried to completely convey the character’s story and mount it so that it looks organic. For this I used montage on motion. Long selected frames.
But here I came across a big limitation – the roller should be 3 minutes and it should include all the footage. Therefore, part of the editing had to be redone and the scenes were greatly shortened.
2. Exhibition logo
The customer asked to make a clinap in the scene in the school hall and replace the inscription with a tattered logo.
To do this, I performed the tracking of the scene, smeared the word ‘competitions’ in the inscription ‘Hello to the participants of the competition’.

Instead, I placed the inscription forum ART and placed it on the video so that despite the movement of the camera, it would remain in place. And then he made the color correction of this logo so that it looked like it was his rightful place. The result was as follows.

It was quite difficult to choose a font. My software font definition could not find the appropriate one, so I had to pick it up manually.
Abstract graphics and 3D tracking.
I was given samples of filming from the studio where the actor puts on a virtual reality helmet. Added abstract graphics emulating the interface.

To do this, I had to make tracking scenes. But there were problems – the stage was filmed on a low-quality lens, which gives both geometric distortions and a too blurry picture. Therefore, the application did not cope with tracking. In total, I used 2 different software – these are Adobe After Effects and Mocha. In the end, I had to shorten the scenes a lot. In addition, because of the white scenes, the tracking did not cling to them and I could retreat to the person. As a result, I created several scenes:


I used abstraction as graphics. In order to hide the problems with tracking, I just had to use the short parts of the scenes where the tracking worked correctly, and also added glitch effects that hid some shortcomings. In addition, such effects looked very harmonious.
